Woman continues fighting Olathe lot that sold her bad SUV

OLATHE, Kan. – For the last year, Courtney Halford has been fighting for justice, and she’s winning. Now she wants to help others win, as well.

When FOX4 Problem Solvers first met Halford in 2023 she had been sold a used car that a mechanic quickly deemed as too dangerous to drive.

Despite that, the Olathe car lot where she bought the car, which doesn’t have a name but is located on S. 169 near I-35, refused to give her a refund.

So, she sued the man who sold her the car, Austin Elmer, and won. Then, for the next six months she fought to collect what eventually turned into a $3,800 judgment.

When Elmer wouldn’t respond to her demands for payment, she filed paperwork with the owner of the car lot, Michael Cantwell of Cantwell Enterprises, who has insisted in the past that he has nothing to do with Elmer.

It wasn’t long after contacting Cantwell, Halford got her money. She received a check from an entity called Revolution Auto, which, according to the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office, shares the same address as Cantwell Enterprises, but lists Elmer as the responsible party.

Although Halford’s problem is solved, she’s not done. She’s sharing everything she learned during this whole ugly process with the dealer’s licensing division at the Kansas Department of Revenue.

It’s investigating and wants to talk to anyone, who has bought a car from this same Olathe car lot or from Elmer.
