Day confirms rare homecoming for Aussie PGA

Jason Day has locked in a rare homecoming, the former world No.1 set to end a seven-year absence when he features at Brisbane’s *********** PGA Championship.

The Queenslander, Paris Olympian and former world No.1 hasn’t played on home soil since finishing fifth at the 2017 *********** Open.

On Thursday he locked in a start at Royal Queensland (RQ), where he’ll join emerging star, fellow Olympian and defending champion Min Woo Lee from November 21-24.

Former winners Adam Scott and Cameron Smith, as well as Marc Leishman, are *********** PGA regulars with Day’s addition elevating the event to new heights.

“I’m extremely excited to be coming back home to Queensland this summer,” Day said. “Wearing the green and gold for Australia at the Olympics in Paris was an extremely proud moment for myself and my family and it will be very special to get back on home soil and play in front of the Aussie fans. “I’ve seen the amazing atmosphere at RQ the past few years and can’t wait to experience it for myself.”

Day has suggested for some time he would return home this year to play, but confirmation was sweet relief for PGA of Australia boss Gavin Kirkman.

“I know there will be thousands of golf fans who will keen to come out and see Jason play at Royal Queensland,” he said. “After learning the game in Beaudesert, Jason has gone on to become one of the best players of his generation.”We’re delighted to welcome him back home and to see him challenge for his first Joe Kirkwood Cup.”
