The developer behind the newest MMO community sim, Palia, which debuted its beta version mere month ago, isn’t having the best start. The free-to-play title’s makers have axed 35% of its staff after an evaluation.

, Los Angeles-based Singularity 6 revealed the current workforce it has wouldn’t contribute to “deliver the highest-quality gameplay service for long-term stability.” The team also thanks the people who contributed. Meanwhile, it’s open about providing affected employees with “severance, work-placement and career guidance assistance, and retainment of all company-provided development equipment.”

What 35% of the team is isn’t exactly clear, we’re not sure the proper size of the Palia developer, but regardless, it’s still a pretty significant amount. Frankly, it isn’t shocking, Singularity 6 is just following in the footsteps of other major developers seeking to cut costs and keep things rolling.

“Following Palia’s release on Steam, we evaluated the support needed to deliver the highest-quality gameplay service for long-term stability. We made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce, which impacted around 35 percent of our talented and hardworking team members. We value their contributions and are committed to supporting them throughout this process, including severance, work-placement and career guidance assistance, and retainment of all company-provided development equipment.

This decision was not made lightly, and comes after careful consideration of our development and business needs to support Palia and its community.
