Far Cry 7 Must Include the Boldest Franchise Decision from ‘Primal’ That Can Become a Mainstream Staple in Open World Gaming

As fans eagerly await the announcement of Far Cry 7, speculation is rife about what new features and gameplay mechanics Ubisoft might introduce to keep the long-running series fresh and exciting.

While recent rumors have hinted at some intriguing changes that will, hopefully, work to reduce the series’ recent reputation for repetition, there’s one bold decision from a previous entry in the franchise that deserves a second look.

Far Cry Primal, released in 2016, may not have been the most well-received installment in the series at the time, but it introduced a game-changing feature that, if brought back and refined, could revolutionize the way we play open-world games. And now, with Far Cry 7 on the horizon, it’s the perfect time for Ubisoft to revisit this innovative idea and make it a staple of the franchise.

The Case for Bringing Back Survivor Mode

Introduced in a post-launch update for Far Cry Primal in response to community feedback, Survivor Mode added a new layer of depth and realism to the game’s Stone Age setting. The most significant change was the introduction of a stamina bar, which depleted slowly over time and more quickly when engaging in strenuous activities like fighting or sprinting.

When stamina ran out, players would become slower and unable to use manual healing or fast travel, forcing them to carefully manage their energy levels by sleeping or eating regularly. This added a new level of strategic planning to the game, as players had to balance their ******* to explore and hunt with the need to rest and recover.

Survivor Mode also made players’ animal companions more vulnerable, with injuries leading to permanent ****** if not treated promptly. This added an emotional stake to the game, as players grew attached to their furry friends and fought to keep them alive in the harsh prehistoric world.

Other changes included reduced resources, darker nights with more dangerous predators, and the option to disable the minimap and HUD for a truly immersive experience. These tweaks combined to create a far more challenging and engaging version of Far Cry Primal that rewarded careful planning, situational awareness, and quick thinking.

A New Era for Far Cry 7?

Now, imagine if Ubisoft took the lessons learned from Far Cry Primal‘s Survivor Mode and applied them to Far Cry 7. Recent leaks suggest that the game will take place in a modern-day setting, with players tasked with rescuing their kidnapped family members from a mysterious cult known as the “Sons of Truth.”

While the rumored in-game time limit has some fans worried about pacing and exploration, the addition of a Survivor Mode-inspired difficulty option could alleviate those concerns. Imagine having to manage your stamina and resources as you navigate a sprawling open world, gathering intel on your family’s whereabouts while evading the cult’s patrols.

With a renewed focus on survival mechanics, Far Cry 7 could offer a more grounded and immersive experience that challenges players to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances. The game’s reported interrogation system, which allows players to gather information from enemies, could be even more engaging if integrated with a stamina system that forces players to weigh the risks and rewards of each encounter.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point, as Ubisoft has yet to officially announce Far Cry 7 or any of its features.

But if the rumors are true, and the game does include a time limit and a renewed focus on survival, then bringing back a modernized version of Primal‘s game-changing feature could be the perfect way to balance the new mechanics with the series’ signature open-world exploration and player freedom.

What do you think about the possibility of a Survivor Mode-inspired difficulty option in Far Cry 7? Would you welcome the added challenge and immersion, or do you prefer a more relaxed approach to open-world exploration? Let us know in the comments below!
