Prattville police identify trio facing 69 charges in alleged theft and interstate chase

PRATTVILLE − Police in Prattville have arrested three people in an identity theft scam in which more than $190,000 allegedly was stolen from two victims.

On Sunday, Prattville officers found Eric Kendrie Shuler, Matthew Tizlam Bey, and Kyara Ivelisse Rosario-Berenguer, as they were at Guardian Credit Union on Main Street, said Police Chief Mark Thompson. They were allegedly withdrawing money from multiple accounts, Thompson said.

They fled, starting a high-speed chase which ended on Interstate 85 in Montgomery at the Perry Hill Road exit when the vehicle wrecked, he said. Shuler allegedly began resisting arrest which resulted in an injury to a Prattville officer, Thompson said.

It was determined that Shuler and Bey are from Brooklyn, N.Y., and Rosario-Berenguer is from Reading, Penn., Thompson said. They were taken into custody and transported to the Autauga County Metro Jail where they were placed on an investigative hold until all charges could be determined. Thompson confirmed that after the chase a total of 69 charges were filed against the three and more charges are expected.

Prattville police began investigating the case involving identity theft and the fraudulent use of credit card information. It was reported that people had gained a Guardian Credit Union member’s credit card information and created a fraudulent debit card to access the victim’s account and withdrew $190,250, including withdrawals from Prattville and Montgomery locations, he said.

On Friday, a second victim reported the same incident involving the same suspects withdrawing $73 from her Guardian Credit Union account, he said. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later date.
