Midnight Society Lays Off 50% of Dev Team Following Dr Disrespect Drama

It has been revealed that Midnight Society, the studio working on DEADROP, a ‘vertical’ extraction shooter, has been forced to lay off ‘roughly 50%’ of the development team. Midnight Society rocketed into a prolific position almost three years ago when it was revealed that Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm was a founding member of the studio.

In the years that followed, the controversial creator helped build Midnight Society’s brand and pull players into the world of DEADROP, which many doubted was ‘legit’ because it leant on NFTs as a foundation. Following the recent allegations levelled against Dr Disrespect, the studio has been forced to lay off 50% of its development team.

As most of you know, we have faced multiple unexpected challenges in recent months. To adapt to these changes and secure the future of Midnight Society, DEADROP, and our commitment to providing innovative gaming experiences, we’ve made the tough decision to streamline our operations, which includes a significant workforce reduction.

He went on to stress that DEADROP is still set to be released in 2025 and that the team will spend time compiling revised plans and a fresh roadmap. Nice job @evoli. A bunch of people are no longer able to provide for their children because you were so desperate to get involved in something that you were never involved in to begin with. Worst ’15 minutes of fame’ of all time.

When the revelations about Dr Disrespect were aired, it was claimed that he was an influencer for Midnight Society and nothing more. The concern now is that his profile as an influencer was so impactful that DEADROP will fail miserably as the vast majority of people getting involved were only doing so because of Dr Disrespect.
