From MLGW to the Memphis International Airport to Emergency Management, multiple offices are gearing up for the effects of Tropical Storm Francine.

“They are giving us two or three days’ notice to understand that there will be high winds and heavy rain,” said Director of Emergency Management, DeWayne Rose. “Go ahead and start making those preparations now.”

MLGW said crews are prepared to work around the clock if needed here in Memphis.

Rose said West Memphis is also bracing for the rain.

“We could see three to four inches of rain in the Mid-South, in the West Memphis region,” Rose said. “We have been very dry.”

Rose told WREG that a large amount of rain in a short amount of time could be dangerous.

“You’re going to see flooding. You’re going to see roadways covered in water. Those are the incidents where people really have the most difficulty,” Rose said. “You’ll drive your car through and it stalls out.

The Memphis International Airport issued a statement of warning for those planning on flying later this week to frequently check with their airline because inclement weather can affect their schedules.

This is especially true for travelers going to an area affected by Tropical Storm Francine.
