UGSFL 2024 grand final: Williams celebrates an astounding 43-point win over a floundering Brookton-Pingelly

Williams took an astounding 43-point triumph at Wickepin Town Oval as Brookton-Pingelly ******* to break through their opponent’s defences at Sunday’s Upper Great Southern Football League grand final.

A low-scoring 1.2 (8) to 1.0 (6) first quarter in Williams’ favour, saw both teams start the grand final with a strong front. Impressive tackles and brutal defence kept either side from stealing a goal streak.

The Cats showed insane teamwork and athleticism in the second quarter, out-running the Panthers and booting it down to their poorly guarded frontline to swindle two quick majors.

The Panthers touched grass more than the ball with ruthless defence from their opponents, making for a one-sided grand final game.

The Cats remained ahead of their players for easy marks and goal attempts that enabled them to take a 20-point lead, 4.9 (33) to 2.1 (13) by the halftime siren.

The Panthers ******* to make a lead for an open ball and appeared to lack determination. Their frustration was evident on the field as their tackles and kicks became reckless, indirectly handing it to the Cats.

Kobe Bennell was the only goal scorer (3) for the Panthers, with strong teammates Toby Blechynden, Cameron Graham, Graham John Bolton, Vaughan Baker, and George Hassell quick to the ball.

The Cats’ James Medlen earnt the highest goal-kicker on the field with four majors, and Riley Ford, Matthew Gillett, George Fowler, Josh Cowcher, and Myles Carne aided in the Cats’ comfortable 7.11 (53) to 2.2 (14) third-quarter lead.

The Panthers kept falling short of success, losing the ball at every chance and plagued with an obvious ill-fate in their goal square.

The Cats drilled ahead, claiming a monumental 8.15 (63) to 3.2 (20) 2024 grand final triumph.

Williams player Matthew Gillet took home the Greg O’Neill Medal. Teammate James Medlen received the South Fremantle Football Club award, keeping the Cats celebrations going.
