While most consider Kansas City part of the Midwest, the restaurant was one of 30 recognized by the publication. Other steakhouses mentioned hailed from Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas and Alabama.

Jess & Jim’s, 517 E. 135th St. in South Kansas City, offers strip steak, ribeye, steak burgers, boneless chicken sandwiches and more.

“Find the ****** bull in the sky and you’ve found Jess & Jim’s,” Southern Living notes, referring to the bull statue atop the building. “Fourth generation owners run the iconic spot today.”

USA Today readers voted Jess & Jim’s one of the 10 best steakhouses in 2015. That same year, Huff Post named it one of the 50 best steakhouses in the country.
