In a social media post, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement.

Captain Phillips selflessly gave over 25 years of service to the citizens of Fayette County. He has held many positions throughout our department over the years, most recently assigned as Captain to our uniformed patrol division. He proved to be an exceptional leader, partner, and friend. Most significantly, he was our BROTHER. His dedication, integrity, and honesty ******** unmatched.
