Efforts to untangle the line from the whales continued on Monday after the mammals were spotted on Sunday afternoon near Rottnest Island. Parks and wildlife officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions attached a satellite tracking tag to one of the whales so they could monitor the pair. Rescuers will try again to disentangle the whales, with one them understood to be dragging floats and rope. It comes after a southern right whale mother and calf have been spending time close to shore in Mandurah. They were in Madora Bay on Monday. A DBCA spokeswoman said it was common for southern right whales to rest close to the coast.
