AFLW 2024: Four key takeaways as Fremantle are demolished by Adelaide at home

It was a tough afternoon for Fremantle who ******* to register a major going down by 33-point to Adelaide at Fremantle Bank Community Oval on Sunday.

Here are our four key takeaways

1. Crows came to crunch

The Crows weren’t afraid to get their hands ****** and from the opening bounce brought the ****** and bash.

Led by star midfielder Ebony Marinoff who notched up 13 tackles in the first half alone, the Crows had the home team on the back foot with their physicality in every contest.

The Dockers defence end was under siege early with Ash Brazill, Madi Scanlon and Gabby O’Sullivan racking up the disposals against a relentless attacking Crows.

For just the third time in the clubs history the Dockers ******* to kick a goal and the scoreboard pressure mounted as the game wore on.

Captain and key forward Aine Tighe kicked four majors last week against the ******** but chances in front of goal were few and far between for the Irish star who was forced to go hunting up the field and finished with just one behind.

Laura Pugh, Amy Mulholland, Hayley Miller and Aisling McCarthy all had opportunities but inaccuracy ultimately cost the Dockers.

Irish midfielder McCarthy was one of her sides top performers last week and stood up again in tough circumstances finishing with 14 disposals, six tackles and four clearances.

The 28-year-old shouldered the load and did everything in her power to create opportunities and spark her side into action.

From an impressive kick on the full to clear space, to putting her head over the ball her workload was huge and will no doubt be sore tomorrow after her efforts.

Fremantle Community Bank Oval may just be the best place for fans to enjoy AFLW and with the sun out it was a perfect day to be out watching footy.

The ground had a carnival-like atmosphere with food trucks and live music and plenty of shaded space to sit.

The proximity to the markets means there is plenty for the whole family to see and do pre match, and for adults options for kick ons post match.
