GNWFL Preliminary Final: Chapman Valley down rivals Northampton for fifth straight grand final berth

The Chapman Valley women’s side have punched their ticket to a fifth straight grand final appearance following their prelim victory over Northampton.

The two country rivals have met in four straight finals, and the Royals enjoyed the spoils once again after getting up 7.3 (45) to 4.6 (30) on Saturday at the Rec Ground.

Royals got off to a hot start, going up 2.1 (13) to 0.0 (0) in the first quarter and looked in control of the match.

They didn’t hold the start for long, with Northampton taking the lead by half time with just two points separating the sides.

Chapman Valley took over in the second half and ran away with the win, holding Northampton to just eight points after half time while putting through 26 of their own for the win.

The Royals were helped out with pairs of goals from Lucinda Rouse and Emma Scally getting them over the line in the win.

They will now face Towns in the decider, with the two sides only dropping games to each other all season.

In the colts it was Saints ball all day as Mullewa are looking to defend their title after their 12.7 (79) to 5.7 (37) win over Brigades.

The Saints got off quick with a four-goal lead in the opening term, but the difference came in the third quarter – where they kept the Hawks scoreless.

Blake Whitby was massive in the win, booting five goals for the side while seven others had singles.

Mullewa will look to defend their title when they play Northampton in the decider.

For the reserves, Chapman Valley made it three teams in the big dance after they took down Towns 11.10 (76) to 4.6 (30).

The Bulldogs were held scoreless in the opening half as the Royals ran away with the victory – Tom Warr led the side with three goals.

They will mirror the league grand final, with Brigades and Chapman Valley reserves also facing in the decider next week.
