Hating Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 For Lack of Diversity is Hard to Fathom

The release date of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is right around the corner and the gaming community has waited long enough for this highly-anticipated sequel. The original game was released nearly 13 years ago, and it has taken the world by storm with its ambitious themes and concepts about humans fighting against hostile alien forces to protect their freedom at any cost. Space Marines have been trained to take on these omnipotent foes; however, the original game made one mistake that the sequel carried over.

After seeing the initial previews, fans have complained about the lack of diversity in this gaming franchise. Game developers are entering murky waters with this issue, especially in 2024.

The Gaming Community Believes Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Is Not Being Inclusive

Fans have been waiting for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 to be released after recent events that transpired with Embracer Group, the previous owners of the developing team, that could have affected this game’s fate. Fortunately, Saber Interactive was persistent and these changes hardly affected the development process, and it was nothing but a minor inconvenience to this project’s release.

Despite the high demand from the gaming community, fans will still look for something to criticize about the game. Diversity is a major problem nowadays and can be seen in every form of entertainment, from movies to television series and gaming. Fans noticed the lack of female characters being at the forefront of the Space Marine sequel and this could have been something Saber Interactive combated while working on the sequel.

Before the release day, the developers granted a few lucky content creators and influencers access and feature the game on their respective platforms. Not once was the issue about the lack of female characters raised, but what was concerning was the lack of weaponry. Other players are convinced Saber Interactive is holding on to the full loadout of weapons to avoid ruining the experience of the player base and let them savor each moment.

Other fans wanted to point out that the Warhammer franchise does have strong female characters like Major Sarkaana and she gets the same respect as Titus and their fellow Space Marines. Although, it wouldn’t hurt to have more prominent female leads in a future project.

An argument could be made this was a decision made long ago, believing war is no place for a woman, which is ultimately sexist and disrespectful towards women. Space Marine 2 is still a video game at the end of the day, and the gaming community is concerned about its longevity and how the developers intend to keep the player base hooked and entertained leading to the suggestion of implementing a New Game Plus mode on day one.

The Lack of Female Characters in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Bothered Some Fans

Regardless of diversity or the gaming community’s belief in the lack thereof, Focus Entertainment has set the bar high for what the player base can expect. Perhaps this complaint will be easily overlooked or blown over after enough time has passed for players to power through the single-player story mode.

The lack of female characters does not reflect the developers’ lack of respect for that group; however, it is a new age and people want to be represented. Video games are rising in popularity, and this is the perfect medium to showcase the best of everyone.

War is not for the faint of heart but anyone with the drive to ****** for their beliefs deserves to be seen in the same respect. Hopefully, more characters like Major Sarkaana will be added in the future.

Saber Interactive has struck gold with this franchise and should learn to adapt. Representation and inclusivity will do them more favors down the road.
