Former NSW ******** MP Rory Amon sighted reporting for bail on child **** offences charges

A former state MP charged over alleged historic child ******* ****** has been spotted reporting to police after he was released on bail.

Rory Amon, 35, was snapped leaving a police station in the coastal northern Sydney suburb of Dee Why on Sunday morning wearing a blue jumper.

The former Pittwater ******** member resigned from the party and parliament on August 30 after he was arrested and charged with child ******* offences.

He was granted strict conditional bail in the Manly Local Court the same day.

In a statement, Mr Amon denied the allegations, saying he would “make my case in the courts, not the media”.

The former opposition assistant spokesman for transport and roads, infrastructure and youth, was elected to the seat of Pittwater last year.

He has been charged with five counts of ******* ************ with someone aged 10-14, two counts of attempted ******* ************ with a child, two counts of indecent ******** on a child and committing an act of indecency.

After his arrest, NSW Police said an investigation commenced in June 2022 following reports of alleged ******* ******** in July 2017.

After news of Mr Amon’s arrest broke, state ******** leader Mark Speakman said he had asked for the former MP’s resignation.

“While Mr Amon is entitled to the presumption of innocence, a ********* trial will be some time away and in the meantime the citizens of Pittwater are entitled to have a Member of Parliament who can discharge their duties in the community fully,” he said.

Mr Amon will return to court in October.
