Just as we love to support our local farmers, florists and filmmakers, there’s a new opportunity to celebrate local writers with the inaugural edition of Western Australia’s newest journal. “Small in size, large in impact” is the tagline of the little journal, which features original works of poetry, creative non-fiction, fiction and other forms of writing from 30 WA authors. It’s available to purchase at the Writing WA office (located inside the State Library of Western Australia), on the Night Parrot Press website and in local bookstores including Lane Bookshop, New Edition, Crow Books and Planet Books. It only costs $15 to invest in WA’s literary future.

Spring is here and what better way to mark its arrival than with a glass of champagne and a fresh plate of fine seafood. ****** Clicquot is celebrating a new release of its La Grande Dame 2015 by partnering with three venues in Australia, including Gibney in WA. Sommelier Nina Throsby worked with Gibney’s chefs, under head chef James Cole Bowen, to create a dish to pair with the sunny vintage: shime saba of blue mackerel with cucumber, radish, green apple, Block 275 oil and cucumber dashi. The beloved singer-songwriter released her new album The Second Act this week and also announced a second Perth show at Kings Park and Botanic Garden, after the first sold out. Higgins has spent five months travelling Australia performing her landmark The Sound Of White album for its 20th anniversary, with a stripped-back opening set from the forthcoming album.
