It still regularly tops best-of lists, despite the fact it hasn’t aired for 17 years, and a whole new This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up of fans has recently discovered it thanks to TikTok. They’re watching it in droves and chatting about their thoughts on the social media site. Honestly, it’s a joy to behold. Yep, it’s hard to overstate just how big an impact this Noughties mob drama had on the TV landscape, but this excellent documentary attempts to unpack it, chatting to the show’s creator, David Chase, about his celebrated drama. Told in two parts over two hours and 40 minutes by award-winning documentarian Alex Gibney, the doco is crammed full of revelations, archive footage and chats with the cast (sadly, the show’s central star, James Gandolfini, who played mob boss Tony Soprano, passed away in 2013 — that’s discussed as well). It weaves a fascinating story. But what is arguably the most enjoyable part is the fact that Gibney sits down with Chase in an exact mock-up of the set of psychiatrist Dr Melfi’s (Lorraine Bracco) office — fans of the show will recognise this as the spot where Tony Soprano famously goes for his debrief sessions, and by framing the documentary like this, it sets the tone for a kind of confessional. Chase’s chat, plus the accompanying footage and reactions from others involved in the series, makes for engrossing, immersive viewing. This doco is a must-see for fans both old and new — see you on TikTok for a debrief. Return To ParadiseSunday, 7.30pm, ABCCamera IconReturn To Paradise is an *********** spin-off of ****** In Paradise. Credit: Supplied/ABC This Aussie ****** In Paradise spin-off might not feel as “exotic” as others in the canon (after all — what’s so special about Aussie beaches? We see them every day!), but there’s still plenty to like about this latest addition to the Para-verse, which sees Anna Samson step in to play the first female lead in the show’s history. She stars as thorny Detective Inspector Mackenzie Clarke, recently returned to Australia and thrust unwittingly into solving a ******* on the shores of the beach where she grew up. Like ****** In Paradise, this is a comfy Sunday night watch, and it’s giving big Seachange vibes (remember that show?). Fans will likely lap it up. But wait, is that a mysterious Italian man we spy in promos for part 2? Hopefully he’s about to give the soggy Weetbix that is Gabriel a run for his money. Move on already, Emily! But real talk: I quite enjoy their banter, and will be tuning in to watch them embark on their last ever Grand Tour adventure.
