Sam Lake’s Alan Wake 2 is Far Superior Than His First Installment and It’s Not Even a Competition

Alan Wake 2 is considered a modern masterpiece, leaving all of its predecessors long behind. The game is a one-of-its-kind survival horror with a tight story and gripping world.

However, Alan Wake 1 should be praised for setting up the world and all of its themes, but it still falls short of its successor in more than many ways and does not age well with time.

Alan Wake remastered was released a few years ago in 2021. The game got a lot of attention due to the anticipation building up for the release of Alan Wake 2 in the following years.

However, the remastered version made fans realize that the game does not really stand the test of time. The gameplay does not age well, and even the storyline has become stale and redundant.

The first Alan Wake is almost 14 years old now. The game was released back in 2010 and grew to become one of the best games of the survival horror genre. The game has been losing relevance for a while now, and after Alan Wake 2 it is highly unlikely that people would want to go back to the old games.

Alan Wake 2 was released last year in 2023 and immediately became the talk of the town. The game was one of the prime prospects, in run for the Game of the Year award, the title it lost to another magnum opus, Baldur’s Gate 3. Both of the games were worthy rivals equally capable of winning.

The game did win the Game Award for Best Narrative and Best Game Direction, which in itself is a big win for its creator, Sam Lake, who seems to have outdone himself lately.

Sam Lake is a highly talented director who proved that games can also have an immense emotional depth with a surrealistic feel, all wrapped behind the survival horror genre. It was genius of him to package the game in such a wholesome way that it becomes really difficult for people to find any flaws in it.

Sam Lake is even currently as relevant as he was before, and people have been meaning to see what endeavor he might set upon next. What do you think about Alan Wake 2? Let us know in the comments below.
