Man, 23, ***** in fatal Attadale ****** as witness describes shocking, ‘eerie’ aftermath

A young man has ***** in a shocking fatal car ****** in Perth’s southern suburbs, with police saying the driver was evading their attempted intercept.

Residents have described an horrific aftermath of a fatal car ****** along Canning Highway early Saturday morning in Attadale.

Tom Fay, who lives near the Attadale ****** site, said he went outside to investigate after hearing the impact and was met with a scene of devastation.

About 4.40am, the male driver, 23, struck a tree near Braydon Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but the driver was pronounced ***** a short time later.

Police have now confirmed they were trying to stop the man in his car, a Holden Statesman, after it was was seen to be driving at speed by police who were travelling in the opposite direction.

“Police conducted a U-turn to ******** a vehicle interception. However, the Statesman crashed, where it had collided with a tree in the median island,” a police spokesman said.

“The 23-year-old male driver of the Holden Statesman ***** from his injuries sustained at the scene.”

Major ****** investigators are conducting an examination of the scene, with oversight from the Internal Affairs Unit.

Horror pictures from the scene show parts of the man’s car strewn all over the highway and up against a tree.

“It was quite scary actually. There was total silence, there wasn’t another car in sight. When I walked out it was eerie, no doubt about that,” Mr Fay said.

“There were just bits of car all over the road. It was just the horror of scrap metal everywhere. Some bits were thrown over one person’s gate.

“A police car arrived more or less the same time I did. There was only one policeman on the scene at that time. He was shaking.

“I was told it was a fatal ******. Soon enough other police cars came from everywhere.”

A resident of the area for more than 30 years, Mr Fay said while there was the odd minor ****** he hadn’t seen such carnage before.

“It’s usually a safe road. I don’t know what happened with the driver but it was just crazy that could happen here,” he said.

“I’m actually recovering from bilateral hip replacement which keeps me awake, so I was out of bed.

“That’s why I was awake when I heard the noise. It didn’t sound like a ****** though, it sounded like a thud. Like something had hit your roof. It wasn’t a tinny sound like a ******.

“I walked out basically thinking ‘where did this all come from’. There were three major sections of the car 500 metres away from each other.

“As I was walking back to my house there was glass from the car everywhere”

A stretch of the highway was closed between Rome Road and Preston Point Road while WA Police’s Major ****** Investigators gather evidence.
