The game has been a long time coming; the promises the developers have made only served to make the shooter much more excruciating. Among those big promises is one of a large and expansive open world. This has made gamers wonder how long the game will be. Fortunately, it looks like STALKER 2 will surpass even Elden Ring when it comes to game length.

With the release just a few months away, STALKER 2  pulled an incredible showing at Gamescom 2024, debuting a new trailer as well as playable demos available on the show.

about the game’s vast open world and the challenges gamers will face, Technical Producer Evgeniy Kulik touched upon the most hotly debated topic: STALKER 2‘s overall runtime.

If we’re talking about how [the] story evolves in this case, to cover all narrative content from the old side, from each version of each faction, it may take you maybe up to 100 hours

According to Kulik, completing STALKER 2 can take roughly around 100 hours. This is all due to the fact the game’s story evolves based on how the player approaches it, with multiple versions of events and factions that can’t be experienced in just a single playthrough.

Each decision that players make will have both long- and short-term implications that can lead to branching narrative paths. If you’re looking to fully experience everything the game has to offer, you’ll need multiple playthroughs.

Just for comparison, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring can take roughly around 80-100 hours, depending on how you choose to play it. GSC Game World has managed to craft a game that’s right up there with the legendary Soulslike, giving Xbox its own Elden Ring rival.

STALKER 2‘s New Release Date Could Prove to Be Troublesome

Back in July, it was announced that STALKER 2 would face another delay, and its release date was pushed back to November 20th. This marked the game’s fourth delay since 2022. While it’s confirmed that we’re finally going to see the game this fall, the new release date puts the title in the heart of a packed *******, which could prove to be quite harsh for the game.

The latest release date for the shooter places it in the midst of the November release season. Traditionally an already busy time, the Q4 ******* will also see some other notable games dropping, such as *********’s Creed Shadows, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle.

While some aren’t confirmed yet, there are precedents all set to expect them to be likely released around the same time. This puts immense pressure on the shoulders of GSC Game World on multiple fronts. The previously early September target had less competition, as much as it stands now. Some of these games weren’t even direct competitors.

The game’s latest trailer is surely exciting as it promises impressive graphics and narrative. However, the latest shift has put it at a high risk of going against other heavy hitters during the late season, which might hurt its chance to grab the spotlight.
