Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Next Potential Course of Action after Elden Ring is a Colossally Wrong Move That Can Make FromSoft the Next Bethesda

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the celebrated president and creative mind of FromSoftware recently hinted at the future of the studio after Elden Ring‘s DLC. We might see the studio pivot towards developing multiple smaller projects instead of focusing on a single massive game.

FromSoft is one of the most revered game developers today and is behind some of the most successful titles. The studio has seen massive success with titles like Elden Ring and Bloodborne. The Souls games have even set a standard for difficulty in games and even forged a new genre named after them.

Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Potential Vision For The Studio Might Be Concerning

Hidetaka Miyazaki’s influence on FromSoftware’s projects has been undeniable, with each game bearing his signature touch. From ******’s Souls to Bloodborne, the quality of these games has always been a reflection of Miyazaki’s hands-on approach.

In an interview with

, Miyazaki revealed some thoughts of what he thinks is the direction for the studio’s future. With the immense success of Elden Ring, Miyazaki suggested that the studio has reached its limit in terms of project scale.

Where FromSoftware is right now, in terms of scale, I would say Elden Ring is really the limit. We’ve tapped every resource and talent that we have access to … scaling it even *******, I’d have my concerns.

He believes that the next logical step might be to allow younger talent within the studio to take on smaller projects, so the studio can become more diverse with its production.

Perhaps having multiple projects is the next stage, where some of the other younger talent can have the opportunity to manage and direct game design for a smaller project.

While fostering new talent is undoubtedly important, the idea of dividing the studio’s resources among several projects could be risky. This is especially concerning given the high expectations that have been set by the success of Elden Ring and its predecessors.

Fromsoft is Known For Quality Over Quantity So Why Change?

The best example of this risk is Bethesda. Titles like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series were groundbreaking games from the studio at the time. But in recent times, the studio’s reputation has taken a hit due to the shift towards producing multiple projects simultaneously.

And the ones most affected by this shift are us the players. All the studio has been known for in recent years is a series of games plagued by technical issues, lackluster storytelling, and a general decline in the quality that once defined the studio.

Underwhelming titles like Fallout 76 and Starfield tell the story of the studio’s recent focus. These titles aren’t outright horrible but the drop in quality is noticeable. That isn’t to say Bethesda is completely incompetent though.

And while FromSoft has had its own share of little misses, gamers would much rather prefer one slightly ******* letdown than multiple smaller ones. Otherwise, it risks becoming just another developer churning out quantity over quality. And FromSoft is known to do the opposite.
