Patel eliminated from *** Conservatives leadership race

Priti Patel, a former interior minister, has been eliminated in the first round of the ******* Kingdom’s ************* leadership contest, leaving five candidates in the race to be the party’s next leader.

Patel received 14 votes from ************* members of parliament, the fewest of any candidate in the first round of the contest.

In the leadership contest, the party’s elected MPs will narrow the field down further next week to four candidates, who will make their case at the ************* Party conference which begins in late September.

In the first round Robert Jenrick came first with 28 votes, Kemi Badenoch followed with 22, James Cleverly won 21, Tom Tugendhat had 17 and Mel Stride 16.

Thirty ************* MPs gathered in a parliamentary committee room for the result of the first ballot, a quarter of their total numbers.

The party’s new leader will be named on November 2.
