Hideaki Itsuno Was Forced to Take Over the ****** May Cry Franchise While He Was Working on His Dream Project Dragon’s Dogma

It is no secret that the production of DMC 2 was a nightmare and a lengthy process and Capcom did everything humanly possible to make it work. Fortunately, the gaming company is full of talented people, and director Hideaki Itsuno was approached by the higher-ups and forced to work on the project. If he had not stepped in and offered his services and expertise, there is no telling what would have happened to the second ****** May Cry entry.

Game development can take a toll and creatives like Itsuno can make or break the entire project. The development of ****** May Cry 2 is a cautionary tale of biting more than a developer could chew.

The Worrying State of DMC 2 Forced Capcom to Pull out One of Its Best Directors

The success of the original ****** May Cry inspired Capcom to develop a sequel immediately. Unfortunately, the developers ******* to realize that success requires time and have encountered countless problems during production. The series was renowned for its hack-and-slash gameplay, and each new entry elevated the franchise to new heights, but all of it was nearly snuffed out due to the messy process of ****** May Cry 2.

Director Hideaki Itsuno was pulled out of his development process for his dream project to work on the sequel against his will because he was on the verge of creating a steady foundation for what eventually became the first Dragon’s Dogma game.

series to redeem himself and the franchise with what transpired in his first project.

Amidst the chaos, Itsuno was able to work on his dream project and garnered universal praise from the gaming community. A few years later, Itsuno directed a sequel that was worth the wait and should have been the standard Capcom upheld years ago for the earlier ****** May Cry games. Fans were blown away by the attention to detail and the level of fidelity of the artificial intelligence shared across NPCs and enemies.

Building a game from the ground up while taking the helm of sequels of another franchise can be daunting but Itsuno did not falter. In less than 2 weeks, Dragon’s Dogma 2 caught up with the impressive sales record of ****** May Cry 5, and both games were directed by Itsuno, a testament to his skill in this craft.

There is no telling what the franchise would look like today if Capcom had not approached Itsuno and entrusted the last few months of development. Although it might not be the ideal circumstance to get the job as a director and advisor, Itsuno tried his best and wanted to prove the franchise has potential while simultaneously working on something else.

Capcom learned its lesson the hard way and decided to take things slow after the chaotic production of DMC 2. Succeeding installments were a critical and financial success, especially the most recent entry, and it came at the cost of the rushed production of ****** May Cry 2.

Director Hideaki Itsuno recently announced his departure from Capcom after almost working for the company for three decades. Hopefully, the director will continue working on great games without any conditions or time constraints.
