Perth is getting a new overnight swim competition

Perth’s Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is launching a new 12-hour overnight relay swim that will make taking the plunge well worth it.

Competitors will do laps in a relay format to support groundbreaking medical research initiatives into the hardest-to-treat cancers, heart ********, diabetes and rare genetic *********.

Swimmers at any level can join in teams of eight or more and the swim is tipped to become an annual event.

Dubbed The Perkins Plunge, the new fundraiser, powered by Mineral Resources, encourages teams to push themselves in the pool through the night, which will also be filled with entertainment and refreshments.

“At the Perkins, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive positive change,” Perkins chief executive Prof Peter Leedman says.

“Medical research is the only way we can turn the tide on the ********* that are robbing us of the people we love.”

“Like research, the Plunge will push you to the limits and beyond in the hope of funding life-saving discoveries that will change the course of *******, heart ********, rare genetic ********* and more,” he adds.

“It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and our researchers’ commitment to finding answers to the world’s toughest *********.”

It will take place on November 9 and 10 at HBF Stadium in Mount Claremont and registrations are now open.
