Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Words is the Confirmation We Needed Dark Souls is Likely Ending as a Trilogy

There are no limits to Hidetaka Miyazaki’s brilliance when it comes to creating a great video game title that players around the globe enjoy. He has been particularly successful in the Dark Fantasy genre and has created some of the most recognized titles ever, including Elden Ring and Bloodborne.

However, a disappointment to many of the fans is how the director has a habit of ending the video game as a trilogy, which is what he has done with Dark Souls. While one would hope that he would be revisiting the franchise in the future, he has indicated otherwise when asked about the same in an interview.

. The interviewer mentioned how ********* studios often tend to continue releasing fresh installments for a franchise that is already successful, and if Hidetaka Miyazaki was willing to do the same, to which he replied-

“It’s very difficult to answer to this kind of question, but whatever the case, I’m not denying the value of bringing new installments to the same franchise. There are a lot of things that can be polished by doing so, or there could be things that can be accomplished just by bringing new chapters to a series. I’m not sure about other publishers or developers, but at least From Software believes that all the things that we have learned in past titles can be best reflected in future titles only by working on new franchises and new series.”

Miyazaki essentially talked about how he sets himself apart from other studios by believing in an ideology where improvements to a title are brought upon by not releasing in the same franchise, but starting with something new in the future using what you have learned.

While most of his career has been smooth sailing, the only hiccup in his portfolio is the controversial release of Dark Souls II. It is the only title that was not directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself, and he revealed what led to the studio making that choice.

The renowned director has nothing but exceptional masterpieces of video game titles released in the gaming industry. He revealed how he wished to give someone else the chance to showcase their talents by letting them take the directing position in the development of DS II.

He also disclosed how this decision was taken to help FromSoftware grow as a company at the same time. Despite a controversial release, the game can be considered successful as it allowed the studio to determine if a third installment for the series should be produced or not, and the rest is history.
