1 New Feature in Silent Hill 2 Remake is Downright Revolutionary But It Could’ve Easily Destroyed the Game

Creating a remake of one of the most popular games Silent Hill 2 is a very challenging task. Not only do the developers need to be extra careful about the narrative or the character’s development but they also need to make sure that the game meets the high expectations players have already made.

This daunting task was given to the Bloober Team, known for its expertise in horror games like The Medium, Observer, etc. It looks like not only did they meet but in some aspects exceeded the player’s expectations. One of the most amazing features players are super excited to try is their new free-moving third-person camera.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Successfully Managing to Bypass a Very High Hurdle

The beloved Silent Hill 2 was originally launched in 2001 and left players captivated with its jump scares and various narrative threads that kept them wanting more. The main contributor to the jumpscare was the tighter third-person view that allows developers to place the enemies and traps hidden, surprising players in the process.

However, with the remake, Bloober Team wanted to give players creative freedom over their views but this also created a problem. If the enemies and traps were placed like in the original game, players could ****** the camera and know the jumpscare before it happens.

This will not only make the game feel super easy to progress but also remove all the immersive nature of narrative and gameplay. In a

, both Maciej Glomb, lead producer, and Mateusz Lenart, the creative director explained how they tackled this situation and were able to create a remake which is honoring the original (by following the story) as well as showcased the team’s talent.

Glomb explained that the team needs to deliver a game that meets and exceeds the player’s already high expectations. His exact words were:

We’re not just creating a fresh vision from our minds, but we’re also managing preconceived perceptions and we also need to make sure that it’s a great game to play.

Lenart further elaborated by explaining that they didn’t want to compromise players’ freedom but wanted to embrace it and innovate. His exact words were:

One of the most tense feelings of ***** is the unknown, what you can’t see. So with the remake having a free camera, we were very careful to create the feeling of dread but also wanted the player to explore and investigate despite the dangers that may await.

After hearing the interview and a few trailers, players are excited to get their hands on the Silent Hill 2 remake that is set to release on October 8th. If the game is able to deliver on its promises, it will rejuvenate the franchise once again.

Why Silent Hills Remake Need to Innovate More?

With the gaming industry expanding and evolving at a very rapid pace, there is fierce competition in every genre. Even though Silent Hill 2 is beloved by the community, they also want to see new innovations and mechanics to maintain their interest.

Even though allowing players to freely move the camera in Silent Hill 2 Remake is a major change from the original game, it needs to be noted that this is not unique to the genre itself. There are various games like Alan Wake 2 that have showcased higher levels of innovation and left a long-lasting mark in the genre.

From the interview, it looks like the Bloober Team also knows this fact and is looking to create a game that will not only attract the veterans of the franchise but also get attention from new players. Just as Glomb Said:

It’s about finding the right balance, which is why we decided early on to divide the story away from gameplay. We want to keep the story true to the original but update the gameplay to be modern and meet current expectations.

In the end, many players believe that Bloober Team will not disappoint due to its track record but they are still keeping a close eye on every information about the game before the release.
