Search continues for teen swept out to sea south of Adelaide

The desperate search for a teenage boy missing in waters off Victoria Harbor, 84km south of Adelaide, resumed on Monday.

Blair Athol, 16, was last seen in waters of Granite Island after he was swept off the rocks shortly after 3pm on Sunday.

A multi-agency search effort including the Polair helicopter, state SES, and volunteers, was scrambling to find the boy, but so far he has not been located.

Police said on Monday morning their search effort had been hampered by dangerous weather conditions in the area.

A SA Metropolitan ***** Service spokesperson told the ABC the boy had been swept out to sea and attempts by other swimmers to help him were eventually abandoned.

A man at the scene who heard a woman crying and yelling told 7News “no one had any idea what was happening, but something is not right”.

The search has so far taken place both at sea and on land, with police, SES, and volunteers conducting foot searches.

Police said Volunteer Marine Rescue and Surf Lifesaving SA vessels were also on standby.
