Archer Reid and Loch Rawlinson sign new deals to extend time at West Coast Eagles

One Reid down, one to go.

As West Coast fans continue to cross their fingers for Harley Reid re-signing news, the Eagles have locked in fellow 2023 draftee Archer Reid on a new deal.

The young tall added two years to his existing contract to tie him to the club until at least the end of 2027, while fellow first-year Eagle Loch Rawlinson also celebrated a one-year deal to remain in the west next season.

Reid was West Coast’s second selection at last year’s draft, taken with pick 30, after his namesake was the much-hyped first name called out.

While Harley starred in his debut season to have Eagles supporters anticipating a potential re-signing beyond 2026, Archer was unable to feature at AFL level in the wake of an interrupted pre-season due to a knee injury.

Reid booted 17 goals in 15 appearances for West Coast’s struggling WAFL side.

“I’m keen to get into my first real pre-season and get started for next year,” the Vic Country product said.

“The coaches told me that I was pretty close to getting a game but obviously it didn’t happen, but that just really drives me into next year wanting to have a solid year and maybe play ones.”

Rawlinson broke through for an AFL debut during the AFL’s Gather Round in April, with the Adelaide Hills clash against Sydney occurring just down the road from where he grew up.

His appearance as West Coast’s starting substitute was his sole match at senior level.

Eagles football manager Gavin Bell said he had been pleased with the progress of both teenagers as they look to take the next step with a big off-season.

“Archer worked hard to get back from his knee injury and he was next in line for an opportunity in our forward line, where we have good depth with our talls,” Bell said.

“We see him being an important part of our squad in years to come, and he also has the ability to play in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck if required.

“Loch has some exciting attributes with his speed and defensive pressure, and has shown determination to get the best out of himself.

“We’re keen to see him continue to develop next season.”
