Celtic claim bragging rights with 3-0 win over Rangers

Celtic claimed Old Firm bragging rights with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Rangers at Parkhead.

Rangers were already two points behind their rivals in the Premiership ahead of kick-off on Sunday and it took Celtic only 17 minutes to take the lead.

Daizen Maeda made the breakthrough when he fired the ball home after fine play by Alistair Johnston.

Kyogo Furuhashi doubled Celtic’s advantage five minutes before half-time when he rifled in from 25 yards and captain Callum McGregor rounded off the scoring in the 75th minute with a superb long-range strike.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement insisted there wasn’t a gulf between the teams, adding: “You need to be clinical in these games, and to go in front changes the momentum,” he said after his fourth defeat in five games against them.

“It would have helped the team a lot to go in front here. We need to be more clinical in those moments. It was the same in the second half.

“Celtic had 14 shots, we had 13. They had four on target, we had four on target. That’s a difference in efficiency. And of course, you give them a lot of confidence. If they go 1-0 in front and 2-0 in front, it’s always easier to play.”

Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount on Hearts boss Steven Naismith after they suffered a sixth straight defeat, against Dundee *******.

Clear-cut chances were few and far between at Tannadice, but it was newly promoted ******* that claimed all three points when Ross Graham drilled in with 14 minutes left after a free-kick.

Hearts fans made their feelings clear towards their manager and team at full-time following another lacklustre display.

A stoppage-time penalty by Bruce Anderson earned Kilmarnock their first point of the new season after a 1-1 draw at home to Hibernian.

Joe Newell put Hibernian in front after 50 minutes but Anderson won the spot-kick on the verge of full-time and found the net to help bottom side Kilmarnock open their account for the campaign.
