Perth weather to warm up this spring with Surf Life Saving WA helicopter patrols back to keep beachgoers safe

Spring has officially sprung bringing hopes the wet weather will soon be over as temperatures up to 25C are expected this week.

This spring, WA is expected to be warmer than usual in most areas except for the south where temperatures will be average and the north is forecast to experience unusually warm days and nights.

On Monday, Perth is forecast to be mostly sunny with temperatures up to 25C however the wet weather will continue for a lot of the week with showers expected on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The sun will be coming back out in time for the weekend though with partly cloudy days forecast for Friday and Saturday.

More West Aussies are expected to hit the beach soon with Surf Life Saving WA’s rescue helicopters returning to the coastline today to guard over beachgoers until April 2025.

Between September 2023 and April 2024, the Westpac Life Saver helicopters flew nearly 1000 hours across 741 patrols at metropolitan and south west beaches.

The patrol reported a 46 per cent increase in shark sighting last season along with a 42 per cent increase in the number of beachgoers cleared from the water due to an alert issued by the helicopter.

The chopper was involved in 27 search and rescue missions last season and was instrumental in rescuing a stranded fisherman off Carnac Island in March.

Surf Life Saving WA general manager Chris ***** said the choppers played an essential role in helping to deliver safe outcomes for beachgoers.

“We know that the helicopters play an integral role in minimising shark and beach user interactions, demonstrated by the volume of sightings and resultant clearances over recent seasons,” Mr ***** said.

“We want West Australians to be able to confidently recreate and enjoy our magnificent coastline, and we know this service helps them do that.”
