Big-hitter Duckett returns to BBL as top pick for Stars

Big-hitting England batter Ben Duckett is the No.1 BBL draft pick, joining the Melbourne Stars a year out from the Ashes tour.

The No.4 Test left-hander last played in the league for the Brisbane Heat during the 2021-22 season.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the glaring omission from the WBBL selections when the overseas drafts for the two leagues were held on Sunday in Melbourne.

The Hobart Hurricanes went after a succession of other pre-signings at the start of the women’s draft, forcing the Sydney Sixers to take English star Sophie Ecclestone as the top pick.

Likewise, the Melbourne Renegades named English batter James Vince with the second men’s pick, prompting the Sixers to retain him.

The Renegades then named Laurie Evans, a star last season for the Perth Scorchers.

Perth did not match the Renegades because of the salary cap as they went for New Zealander Finn Allen instead as their first-round pick.
