Extermination Incredible Single-Player Mode Trailer Is Just Another Nail in Helldivers 2’s Coffin

After a long year in Early Access, Starship Troopers: Extermination is finally gearing up for its 1.0 release later this year. Developed by Offworld Industries, the studio behind the famous 2020 multiplayer title Squad, this well-received co-op FPS game serves as the latest video game adaptation.

There’s no doubt that the game is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, but it does face significant competition from a similar bug-stomping co-op shooter that debuted earlier this year, Helldivers 2. However, with the latest single-layer mode trailer, the Offworld game has managed to one-up Helldivers 2, which should set off alarms for Arrowhead.

Offworld Industries dropped a new Developer Diary for Starship Troopers: Extermination, as well as a trailer at Gamescom 2024. The trailer gave us a look at the new Tanker Bug in action. However, one of the major highlights was the look at General Rico and his Special Operations Group.

Project Lead Peter Maurice opened up about various new details regarding the upcoming title, which features none other than Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico. Code-named Special Operations Group. The special mode will take players under a range of missions dispatched by Rico himself as he attempts to form the best Specs Ops division.

Varying in objectives and scope, the missions in this mode are designed to prepare soldiers for the more troublesome 16-person multiplayer missions.

The uniqueness of this particular mode, combined with the fact that we’re going to see Casper in the game, has certainly hyped us gamers as they can’t wait to get their hands on the game and experience this mode themselves.

All of this is only the beginning of Offworld’s plans for their upcoming co-op game. The studio says that it has a “robust” post-launch content update plan, bringing in new game modes and further gameplay changes. The developers hope to add every ******* and bug seen in the live-action and animated movies in the next few years.

It’s time for Arrowhead to wake up and finally give Helldivers 2 some meaningful updates. If the studio doesn’t do that and the player numbers keep dropping, Extermination will undoubtedly ******* the title of 2024’s best co-op game.

When is Starship Troopers: Extermination Releasing?

The fact that Starship Troopers: Extermination was in Early Access for a year led many gamers to believe that the game wouldn’t manage to escape the development ***** and hit the shelves. Fortunately, the developers have finally given us a release date.

Offworld has confirmed that its upcoming title is heading to Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 11th. However, it’s crucial to keep your expectations in check since last-minute delays have become pretty common in the modern gaming landscape. It’s tough to develop a game these days, so the developers might need some more time.

Alongside a single-player campaign mode with the 1.0 release, the title would also support full cross-play between consoles and PC, making it quite an easy sell to your console friends if you’ve played the game during early access.

There’s even a physical release that’s worth keeping an eye out for if you’re into physical media.
