Blizzard Is Seemingly Working On an Unannounced AAA RPG First Person Shooter

after a long legal battle that lasted over a year, Blizzard has an incredible history when it comes to building game franchises and series that leave a mark in the industry.

While it’s possibly best known for the Diablo series, which debuted back in 1997 and had its most recent release in 2023 with Diablo 4, the studio has brought us some popular strategy series like Warcraft and FPS shooters like Overwatch. However, it seems like the studio is preparing for the next chapter in its journey, as it appears to be working on a brand-new IP!

Blizzard Posting Hints Brand-New RPG First Person Shooter Game

Even though Blizzard has given us some memorable franchises, the last couple of years haven’t proven to be the best for the studio. At the start of the year, the company ***** off around 1,900 employees and canceled the development of several games.

Since then, the studio has been busy working on Diablo 4 and WoW expansions. However, as spotted by Timur222, a subtle sentence in one of Blizzard executives’ LinkedIn pages suggests that the company might be developing something fresh.

On the studio employee’s LinkedIn page, they’ve listed Overwatch 2 among their previous credits, as well as the unannounced survival game that was axed back in January. Between those two, they mention another “unannounced triple-A RPG-FPS title.”

Sure, it’s not a lot to talk about, but it might signal what the studio’s next game could look like. There are doubts about whether it will ever hit the shelves, but let’s not forget that the studio’s scrapped MMO Shooter ultimately ***** the foundations for Overwatch.

There’s a chance that this RPG and FPS combo could be connected to the canceled survival game. It might even be linked with Blizzard’s mass hiring spree from April, where it offered roles for senior positions, including design and narrative directors for its next game.

Blizzard Must Learn From Overwatch 2 Failures

When Overwatch 2 was first announced way back in 2019, it was met with a mixed reception from the entire gaming industry, as its existence meant the support for the original game would soon wind down.

Overwatch 2 debuted in early access across all modern platforms in October 2022, but the major highlight of the sequel, PvE modes, was nowhere to be found. At the time, the studio claimed that this feature would be brought at a later update. As months passed, the PvE aspect was hit with delays after delays until it was completely scrapped.

As you might expect, gamers didn’t take this decision lightly. The scrapping of PvE, combined with the studio’s decision to reroll 6v6 back into the game, made the2 in Overwatch 2s name completely pointless. The game was review-bombed to oblivion and still stands as one of the worst-rated titles on Steam.

If Blizzard truly wants to dig back into the FPS genre, it must learn from Overwatch 2‘s ******** by focusing on clear communication and ensuring that promised features are delivered. Listening to player feedback and addressing concerns about monetization is crucial.

The studio needs to stop overhyping features that aren’t fully developed and bring a game that’s polished and a complete product at the launch. Learning from Overwatch 2‘s mistakes can help the developers restore the trust that the company has lost in recent years.

With that said, what kind of game do you think Blizzard is supposedly developing? Let us know in the comments.
