Big response from players for Les Pascoe Memorial Triples this weekend

A field of nearly 60 players will contest Sunday’s open day at Boulder Bowling Club, underpinned by the Les Pascoe Memorial Triples.

Sunday’s mixed program starts at 9am and will be decided across four games of 10 ends, with a $10 entry fee applying.

The club’s blue-ribbon event, the annual Race Round carnival, will be held from September 30 to October 4.

Tournament action will feature the traditional welcome fours on the first two days, with a rest day applying on October 2 because of the Hannans Handicap race meeting.

Play resumes with the farewell fours on October 3 and 4. By late Friday, 21 teams had nominated.

For the first time this year, it will be an open-gender carnival.

Stan Curtis and Jack Osmetti founded the carnival in 1976 and it quickly ranked among the best in WA.

Both were well-known Goldfields hoteliers who combined to win the 1974 State pairs championship.

Osmetti, who owned Boulder’s historic Cornwall Hotel and was 78 when he ***** in 1991, joined the club in 1935.

He celebrated his debut season by winning the novice singles.

Curtis, who later joined Perth club Doubleview, also combined bowling with running local hotels before eventually leaving the region.

He became a State selector in 1999.
