, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) urged residents to have “a safe, sober ride” as they enjoy Labor Day weekend. WCSO has enforced a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative since August 16 and the initiative will end on Labor Day.

That same day, the THP will also have sobriety checkpoints at 3220 Bell Road in Davidson County and at the intersection of Kraft Street and Frosty Morning Drive. Pickett County will also see a Friday sobriety checkpoint at Highway 111 at Cherrytree Lane.

Giles County will see a sobriety checkpoint on Sunday, September 1 on U.S. Highway 31 at mile marker 3.6.

On Monday, September 2, there will be a THP sobriety checkpoint on Highway 141 at the Cumberland River Bridge in Trousdale County.

Boating instead of driving? If so, you should know that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has issued a reminder to wear life jackets and boat in a safe and responsible manner. All children under 12 are required to wear a life jacket and there must also be at least one life jacket for every person on a vessel.

“As you head out to one of our beautiful lakes or rivers this Labor Day weekend, please keep common sense and safety in mind,” TWRA lieutenant colonel Matt Majors said in a press release. “Our waterways are some of the best in the country, and it is our responsibility to keep them safe and enjoyable for everyone.”

Additionally, the agency will be looking for dangerous boating behavior, like boating under the influence (BUI) and other infractions. The TWRA said that there have been 16 boating-related fatalities compared to 20 at the same time in 2023.

initiative over Labor Day weekend. “Tow to Go” will provide free, confidential rides for one person and one vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.

That initiative will be active from 6 p.m. on Friday, August 30 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 3. In some situations, AAA may need to make other arrangements to get an impaired individual to a safe place.

“Tow to Go” appointments cannot be scheduled in advance as it is designed as a safety net for those who did not plan ahead. AAA encourages people to select a designated driver before celebrating. If you wish to utilize ‘Tow to Go,’ call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO (855-286-9246).
