1 Popular Streamer Has Praised Valve’s Deadlock, but His Endorsement Doesn’t Mean Much

Valve’s latest game, Deadlock, has been the talk of the internet lately. Among the loudest voices praising the game is popular streamer Shroud. Despite the game still being in its early development stages, the streamer has been vocal about his belief in the game’s potential to become the next big hit.

The excitement is definitely valid since the game does genuinely look good. But his endorsement might not carry as much weight as it seems, considering his penchant for being overly optimistic about nearly every game he plays.

Gather Around Because Deadlock Might Just Be the Next Big Thing

Deadlock remained in mystery until recently when leaks and whispers started circulating about its existence. On August 23, 2024, the devs finally confirmed the game with a subtle update on its Steam page, and only a handful of content creators, including Shroud, were granted early access.

The game blends elements of a third-person shooter with MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) mechanics. Since the game’s reveal, it has been met with a mix of excitement and skepticism. Shroud has been playing it since its closed alpha testing and is already convinced of its potential.

Yeah, this game is gonna easily, and I mean easily, take over when it comes out,

He stated this confidently during one of his early streams. But given his tendency to praise almost every new game he tries, it’s worth questioning whether his enthusiasm is truly indicative of the game’s quality.

His praise is not limited to just one or two aspects of the new game. He praised the game’s mechanical depth saying that it has more to offer than any other third-person shooter he has played.

He even suggested that mastering the game could take upwards of 1,000 hours. This wouldn’t be something new for a Valve game though. Dota 2, the devs’ current MOBA game has been in the market for over a decade and has been known to be notoriously hard and not beginner friendly.

How Far Can The Game Really Go Though?

The streamer’s history of endorsing games with unbridled enthusiasm is well-documented. Whether it’s a big-budget AAA title or a small indie project, Shroud often finds something to love, even with Helldivers 2. His praise for the game could be seen as just another instance of his tendency to get caught up in the excitement of a new game.

While his experience as a former professional gamer certainly gives his opinions some credibility, it’s important to remember that, as a streamer, he keeps his content engaging and positive, which may sometimes lead to overstatement.

Despite the excitement, let’s remember that the game is still in its infancy. Valve has a long history of creating successful games, but it also had its own share of projects that didn’t live up to expectations.

The game’s complex mechanics and the challenges of balancing a MOBA-shooter hybrid could make or break the game in the long run. If games like Dota 2 and League of Legends have been any indication, it takes years to fine-tune these games. And the balancing act never stops.
