In 2021, famous British chef Gordon Ramsay declared that Greek food is better than Italian during an episode of ITV’s Gordon, Gino & Fred Go Greek.

Italian chef Gino D’Acampo was left fuming at Gordon Ramsay after the two famous chefs began chatting about food and Ramsay cheekily declared that Greek food is better than Italian.

The two chefs were traveling around Greece and visiting the nation’s gorgeous islands in search of the best food around.

Gordon Ramsay prefers Greek food to Italian cuisine

However, it wasn’t long before relations turned sour between the TV presenters because Ramsay admitted his preference for Greek food to the Italian star.

He told D’Acampo he thought Greek food was better than Italian cuisine, as the stars sat back on a luxurious boat cruising the seas. In the awkward scenes that followed, the two chefs ended up getting into a rather heated Mediterranean food debate.

Gordon told Gino: “Greece never gets the look-in that France has or the Italians…Honestly, I think Greek cuisine is better than Italian cuisine.”

Gino looked absolutely shocked at Gordon‘s statement, proceeding to put down his glass of champagne angrily before replying “Oh you’re not serious!” He then tried to rope Fred in on his side as he waved his arms in protest, crying out “Say something, say something!”

Fred agreed with Ramsey about Greek food’s superiority

Sadly, for Gino, Fred agreed with the Kitchen Nightmares star, telling him that people in Greece live long, healthy lives as a result of their national dishes.

Gino fired back: “The Italian diet is one of the most famous diets in the world. People living many, many years.” He added that you simply cannot compare Greek cuisine to that of the Italians.

During the episode, the three chefs stopped off on the Greek islands of Crete, Santorini, and Mykonos. From Gino’s skippering a catamaran and diving for lobsters to his taking mud baths and helping make moussakas, the three foodies had a blast during their time on the Greek islands.

Crete is also home to hundreds of smaller, less well-known beaches vacationing Britons have already discovered and love returning to. Part of the Cyclades islands, Santorini is a popular holiday destination. Walking the Caldera and watching the sunset is a must on the island.

In the north, Santorini‘s capital, Oia, has been photographed millions of times by Britons and other tourists. Beach days can be spent on Red Beach, Perivolos, Perissa, Kamari, Monolithos, White Beach, Agios Georgios, or Vlychada.

Last but not least is the island of Mykonos. Also part of the Cyclades island group, Mykonos is known as the party capital of the region with thousands of tourists partying it up every year.

In the first episode of Gordon, Gino & Fred Go Greek, Ramsay cooked his pals lobster, and all three stars tried their best to make bougatsa, a local pastry treat with the help of chef Joanna, who had a sweet spot for the outspoken British chef.
