If you’re a fan of RPGs, 2024 and beyond is shaping up to be an exciting time *******. With a mix of highly anticipated sequels and brand-new titles and IPs, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Whether you’re a fan of deep, narrative-driven experiences like that of Obsidian’s, or prefer fast-paced action and level design similar to FromSoftware’s, or just want something to fill the void left behind by Persona, there’s something for everyone to look forward to.

5. Avowed

Avowed is another highly anticipated RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. This game is set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity and is set to deliver the same rich, immersive experience. Players can look forward to a deep, narrative-driven story with complex characters and a detailed world, just like the two Pillars games.

The developers are focusing on delivering a compelling plot and engaging gameplay that will appeal to fans of traditional RPGs. With Obsidian’s track record of creating such story-rich games, Avowed is expected to be a major hit when it finally releases next year. More gameplay is set to be revealed from now until the release date.

4. Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero is an intriguing action RPG set in a dark, fantastical world, drawing comparisons to FromSoftware’s world-building and game design, although the game is still pretty different from theirs. This game has been gaining attention for its amazing fast-paced combat.

The developers have stated that it’s more akin to action games such as ****** May Cry, and the game is still several years away. Expect to see even more gameplay at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

3. Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert has making waves ever since the first gameplay trailer with its impressive graphics and extremely ambitious scope, with multiple different gameplay elements and mechanics borrowed from other great games. This game is set in a vast open world and features a mix of medieval and fantasy elements, and is an action RPG.

The developers have promised an immersive experience with a deep narrative and complex characters. Players can expect strategic combat and some genuine exploration in a beautifully crafted environment. It’s shaping up to be a standout title in the genre. It’s scheduled to release next year, with more gameplay demos coming later this year.

2. The Outer Worlds 2

The Outer Worlds 2 is stirring up excitement despite being a bit farther off. The sequel looks to build on the charm of its predecessor, which was known for its witty writing and sharp commentary on corporate greed. The original game stood out for its humorous take on serious themes, and plenty of fun characters.

With Obsidian Entertainment at the helm, fans are hopeful that the sequel will offer more of the same great storytelling and unique world-building. Although we don’t have a release date yet, The Outer Worlds 2 is expected to continue exploring its satirical universe in creative ways, with the game becoming the sole focus after the release of Avowed.

1. Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio is an upcoming JRPG that stands out for its unique anime art style and intriguing concept. The game is set in a fantasy world that combines elements of classic RPGs with a fresh, modern twist.

The game is headed by the director of Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5, and players can expect the same level of depth, especially in its characters and story. It features both turn-based and real-time combat, and the developers are looking to deliver an engaging story filled with memorable characters and a richly detailed world.
