Fremantle’s finals miss means Nat Fyfe is now experiencing the longest post-Brownlow finals drought of any medallist for more than half a century. Fyfe remarkably hasn’t featured in September action since snaring the first of his two Brownlows in 2015. He’s played 128 home-and-away games without a final in that time, edging past fellow WA product Brad Hardie, who featured in 125 matches after his 1985 medal win with none in the post-season. Fyfe’s wait to feature in his first final since becoming a Brownlow winner is the longest since Bob Skilton, with the legendary midfielder leading South Melbourne in 170 games between the first of his three medals in 1959 and the sole final of his career 11 years later.

Harley Reid’s debut campaign is over – and it ends as one of the greatest tackle-breaking seasons of the modern era. Since the stat of broken tackles was first recorded in 2011, only Dustin Martin (83 in 2017) and Chad Warner (63 this year) have registered more than the 58 that the Eagles teenager was able to produce this season. Reid’s final tally was more than double the previous record for a first-year player, set by Sam Powell-Pepper in 2017 with 24.
