After the ******** of Concord, Could We See PlayStation Pivot To Revive Franchises Like Resistance and Killzone?

The recent underperformance of Concord, a highly anticipated hero shooter, has sparked speculation about PlayStation’s future strategy when it comes to multiplayer and live-service games.  As the gaming landscape grows more competitive every year, there are talks about Sony possibly reviving older franchises to improve its lineup. 

Over the years, PlayStation has relied on iconic series like Infamous, **** of War, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank to drive its success. More recently, they found hits with newer IPs such as Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, and Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. With the ******** of Concord, this is the best time for Sony to look back at older franchises like Killzone and Resistance, which already have established fanbases.

Resistance topped the list, with many remembering the excitement of playing the second and third games in the series before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects. The series’ alternate history setting was a hit, and a reboot by today’s Insomniac could be a major win. 

Some think that leaning into the horror aspects of the series could make it even more interesting. There have also been calls for remasters or remakes of the original games, which could gauge interest in a new title without requiring a massive investment.

When these franchises were at their peak on the PS3, both of them had great multiplayer modes. Some might say that it’s rather baffling that Sony didn’t pursue their older FPS franchises, instead of spending so many resources on a new IP. 

If the hurdle was that their original studios were busy with newer franchises, then either the smaller first-party studios like the now-defunct London and Japan Studios, or other third-party studios could have taken the reins.

Why Now Might Be the Perfect Time for a Comeback

Unfortunately, both of these franchises have been dormant for over a decade. It’s been 11 years since the last Killzone game, and Insomniac hasn’t touched Resistance since the third game in 2011. 

However, the idea of revisiting these worlds with today’s advanced technology is exciting. Imagine the war-torn landscapes and the intense narrative of these games with cutting-edge graphics and expansive multiplayer options. There’s so much untapped potential in these franchises, just waiting to be explored.

Hopefully, after the ******** of Concord, Sony realizes what it already has and builds on it, instead of chasing a new golden goose.

As Sony continues to innovate with its hardware, now might be the perfect time to bring back these beloved series. The rumored PS5 Pro’s powerful processing capabilities could provide the ideal platform for these reboots, allowing developers to create more realistic environments, and push the boundaries of technological limitations.

Rebooting or remastering these two franchises would bring a lot of goodwill back to the publisher, drawing in longtime fans and attracting a new generation of players as well.
