WAFL 2024: East Fremantle to host Claremont at Tigers’ home ground in elimination final

East Fremantle will host Claremont at the Tigers’ home ground in an extraordinary twist to their must-win elimination final on Sunday.

The Sharks are yet to return to East Fremantle Oval because of the issues between the club and the local council, forcing them to play home games elsewhere.

It is understood the Sharks had multiple options of other venues but picked Revo Fitness Stadium with Fremantle Community Bank Oval unavailable.

East Fremantle have played at Revo Fitness Stadium three times this season for three wins, including a 90-point thumping of Claremont in round two.

Bouncedown for the game will be at 2.10pm and broadcast on Channel 7.

The Tigers snuck into the finals on the last day of the home-and-away season with a 49-point win over Subiaco on Sunday.

It eliminated South Fremantle from the premiership race and ended Todd Curley’s tenure a coach before September after he chose not to seek a contract renewal for next year.

Meanwhile, Peel Thunder will host Swan Districts down at Mandurah’s Lane Group Stadium in the qualifying final.

The Thunder had been on top of the ladder since round 17 and for 12 rounds this year, but surrendered the minor premiership to East Perth when the Royals beat them by 20 points on Saturday.

East Perth will now await the winner of the Thunder and Swans in the second semifinal, when the first of this year’s grand finalists will be decided.

Claremont are the only club to have a side in all three grades for finals, claiming the minor premiership in both the reserves and colts.

East Fremantle will host Subiaco on Sunday in the reserves qualifying final, while South Fremantle and Perth will play off in an elimination final.

In the colts, West Perth take on Subiaco in the qualifying final and Swan Districts battle Perth in the elimination final.
