Fede Alvarez Noticed an Odd Coincidence Between His New Alien Movie and Naughty Dog’s Zombie Apocalypse

As one of the best games to release on the PlayStation 3, The Last of Us delivered an impactful story and engaging gameplay. Those who have played the game are familiar with the opening sequence and how it sets the stage for the rest of the experience.

The game is over a decade old, and the sequel helped to further flesh out the story and characters. Despite controversies, the second part built on the strong foundations of the first and is now going on to inspire other entries into long-standing franchises.

Alien Romulus Director Cites The Last of Us Part 2 as Inspiration for Movie Character

Acquiring inspiration is not bound by the boundaries of genres and mediums. The Last of Us, despite being an original story, is not an entirely original concept, with the likes of I Am Legend playing some part in the game’s development.

The sequel introduced a list of new characters to the equation as well, which gave us a better understanding of how people live in a post-apocalyptic world. While the events happening in the world may not be natural, some processes can’t be stopped, and it seems Fede Alvarez is aware of this.

The director of the recently launched Alien Romulus tweeted images showing the different trading cards created for the movie. One response to the images was a cheeky jab at the director for having taken inspiration for the character appearances from The Last of Us, which is coincidental as some rumors suggest the studio’s next project may be in the sci-fi genre.

The director then quote tweeted that post, revealing that he was playing the sequel when writing the new movie. Dina’s pregnancy in the game inspired the character of Kay in the movie.

The coincidence is that Isabella Merced, who was cast as Kay in Romulus, has now been cast to play Dina in the second season of the HBO series! It’s not often that one actor gets to play two roles in different productions that are inextricably linked by inspiration.

***** Space is one of the most well-known space survival horror experiences. The remake ignited more interest in the genre, and while The Callisto Protocol ******* to deliver, Retrieval might be a worthy spiritual successor. Created by 333Studios, the game is being worked on by some ex-Naughty Dog developers, which could be a promising turn of events.

The trailer revealed during the Future Games Showcase depicted a brutal experience that doesn’t shy away from showing gore where needed. While not much is known about the story, all of the visuals in the trailer are said to be from the game’s engine. If the result is polished, it’s going to be a beautiful experience.

Space is a blank canvas that can be used to create any sort of gaming experience. Horror is a great fit because the environment itself is dangerous, and anything you add on top of that simply builds more tension.

Aliens are only one hurdle that many of these protagonists have to overcome, making it an ideal development ground for studios.
