It carries the trace of its Karridale origins with a cool, southern Margaret River freshness and focus. It’s tensile and light on its feet, but with great presence and burgeoning flavour intensity. In its youthful present state, there’s already some complexity but with careful cellaring it will, no doubt, evolve into something greater. Citrus blossom and nectarine kernel dovetail perfectly with its signature, strudel-like spice from oak and, there’s a delicate lick of savoury, salty, funky complexity. Thrilling wine. 97/100 Compelling and vibrant from the first whiff. Whether it’s the specific chardonnay clones that were planted here, the cool elevated Mount Barrow vineyard or the approach to winemaking, this certainly has a French sensibility, yet it’s not without a core of West *********** oomph! Its dry, sinewy and smooth textures are complimented with opulent bakery aromas — blanched almonds, sourdough and vanilla pod, with zesty bright fruit flavours of fresh loquat and lemon barley. Gorgeous drinking now but will cellar well. I suspect we will be talking more about this site for years to come. 96/100 Premium Subscribers with digital access can view this article.
