Local restaurant to replace chain that fed Boiseans for decades at busy intersection

A familiar dining destination at one of the Boise area’s busiest intersections will serve burgers again soon.

Locally owned Big Bun Drive-In has purchased the former Carl’s Jr. building at 4999 W. Glenwood St., near the corner of Glenwood Street and Chinden Boulevard.

The 3,721-square-foot Garden City restaurant will become a second Big Bun, according to Julie Kissler, senior associate at Summit Commercial Real Estate Group. The target opening date is November, but that will depend on permits, she said.

had been a longtime anchor of the Glenwood City Centre complex. The building was constructed in 2003, according to a real estate listing.

Big Bun has been in Boise for several decades. In May, its sole location at 5816 W. Overland Road celebrated 70 years in the Treasure Valley.

“For people just moving into the valley, our homemade finger steaks are a great option,” Kellogg said. “We take USDA Choice flank steak, trim off the ****, cut it into strips, marinate it for three to five days, and then batter and fry it in our homemade buttermilk batter.

“And then obviously any of our burgers, but we have a rare burger that’s a huckleberry blue cheese bacon burger. That’s a really good one.”
