Prisons inspector Eamon Ryan finds most intellectually disabled inmates are not identified

WA’s intellectually disabled jail population has been grossly underestimated, a report from the State’s prisons inspector has claimed.

Inspector of custodial services Eamon Ryan released his probe into people with intellectual disabilities on Friday, finding the number of intellectually disabled juvenile detainees had increased by 44 per cent between 2018 and 2022.
