WA weather: Storm advice issued as strong winds to hit Mandurah, Perth, Gingin, Rottnest, Scarborough, Yanchep

Perth residents are being told to act now as severe weather is set to hit the metropolitan area after a day of gale force winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning about 3.30pm on Thursday, warning people damaging wind gusts are set to continue battering the State.

“A low-pressure system approaching the southwest coast this afternoon is bringing strong northwesterly winds across much of the South West Land Division,” the BOM alert said.

“Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts to around 90 km/h are possible.”

Locations that may be impacted by the weather include Mandurah, Perth, Gingin, Rottnest Island, Scarborough and Yanchep.

The strong winds are expected to ease by early evening.

Emergency WA has urged residents to pack away or secure outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items.

People are also encouraged to prepare an emergency kit with a radio that runs off batteries, a torch, spare batteries and a first aid kit.
