Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Confession Verifies Dark Souls 3 is Superior to Bloodborne in 1 Area

Hidetaka Miyazaki has created many iconic Soulslike games, and choosing one is indeed very hard. The fans of his Dark Souls series and the Bloodborne fanbase often clash on social media while deciding which game is superior. Miyazaki may have once implied that Dark Souls 3 is better than Bloodborne because he took some elements from that game and applied them to DS3.

Dark Souls 2 may been neglected by Miyazaki as he was more focused on Bloodborne. He served as the supervisor of DS2. As a result, the game couldn’t meet some fans’ expectations. After 2015’s Bloodborne, Miyazaki went back to the Dark Souls series and began the development of DS3 as the director. Obviously, Miyazaki aimed to make DS3 better than all of the games he had created in the past.

At the 2015 Gamescom, Hidetaka Miyazaki sat down with

to talk about Dark Souls 3. During the conversation, Miyazaki explained how Battle Arts was a fresh addition to not just the Dark Souls series but also to FromSoftware’s Soulslike games,

“While working on Bloodborne, I started to realize what new things I should bring to Dark Souls 3, which has different characteristics, to allow players to have a viable range of tactical options and character build options – Obviously, in Dark Souls, the player is allowed to use items, magic and more. However, as additional elements – as an evolution – I’ve added the Battle Arts to each *******. Something similar will be added to spells in the game, and those definitely provide something new to Dark Souls 3. Those will maintain the basics, but bring something new to Dark Souls 3, that will definitely solidly polish the Dark Souls franchise, while remaining a Dark Souls game.”

While working on Dark Souls 3, Hidetaka Miyazaki clearly had one goal, and that was to make the game much better than his last game, Bloodborne.

There will be many arguments that Bloodborne had some elements that made it better than DS3, but Miyazaki’s fresh ideas made DS3 the superior game.

The addition of Battle Arts changed the gaming experience

While working on Battle Arts, Hidetaka Miyazaki wanted it to motivate the players to continue fighting despite the punishing nature of Dark Souls 3. He said,

“It will drastically change the gameplay; it’s not a minor thing – Battle Arts allow a player to have a wide range of tactical options. Even if players are defeated [by a boss], having Battle Arts will motivate players to try the same scene again, but using Battle Arts.”

In their own ways, Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 gave players an unforgettable gaming experience. Both of these games certainly proved how good Hidetaka Miyazaki is. As for the sequel, Miyazaki has made it clear in an interview with

that he is done with the Dark Souls series.
