This burger chain is moving into the vacant Burger King near Missouri State

In time for the fall semester, a vacant building near Missouri State University’s campus will soon be home to a popular restaurant chain.

This fall, a Wendy’s will call the building at 525 S. National Ave. home. The building previously housed a Burger King, which closed in early August 2023. Following the removal of the Burger King signage, the vacant building was surrounded by a protective fence to keep out the curious.

Hamra Gateway LLC, an entity of Hamra Enterprises, purchased the building May 14, according to

owns nearly 200 Wendy’s, Panera Bread, Noodles & Company, and Caribou Coffee restaurants in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

proposes construction to begin on Sept. 3 and conclude by Dec. 4. No significant changes will be made to the exterior of the building. Only new finishes will be added to the interior and exterior. Iowa-based Wertzberger Architects will complete the renovations.

Once plans have been reviewed and accepted by all necessary city departments, renovations can begin.
