The Terrifying Gamescom 2024 Trailer for Directive 8020 Makes It Look Like This Could Be the Scariest Game In The Dark Pictures Anthology So Far

Gamescom 2024 is in full swing, and as expected, Supermassive Games has just dropped a bone-chilling trailer for the highly anticipated first chapter of The Dark Pictures Anthology Season 2: Directive 8020. If the glimpse shown at the end of The ****** in Me left you intrigued, this new footage will have you on the edge of your seat.

From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like this upcoming space horror experience could be the most terrifying entry in the series to date, taking players on a harrowing journey through the depths of space.

Supermassive Games has never been afraid to experiment with new themes and settings with each installment of their universally acclaimed series. From the supernatural horrors of Man of Medan to the psychological thriller of House of Ashes, the series has always managed to keep players guessing.

With Directive 8020, the developers are venturing into uncharted territory once again, this time trading in the earthly horrors of previous games for the cold, unforgiving expanse of space. And if the announcement trailer is anything to go by, this new setting is going to be used to maximum effect.

The teaser opens with a clip of the protagonist, played by British actor, Lashana ****** (known for her role as Maria Rambeau/Binary in the MCU), delivering a speech presumably before everything went bad.

As the footage continues, we catch glimpses of the horrors that await the crew of the Cassiopeia, who find themselves hunted by “an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey.”

The Stakes Have Never Been Higher

The teaser may be short, but it’s packed with enough eerie and mysterious events to leave us desperate for more. The sense of claustrophobia and isolation is palpable, with the spacecraft setting providing the perfect backdrop for the unfolding horror.

While Supermassive has given us a release window of 2025, it’s keeping the exact date under wraps for now. But one thing’s for sure: if this teaser is anything to go by, Directive 8020 is going to be a white-knuckle ride from start to finish.

Of course, we’ll have to wait until sometime next year to see if the game can live up to the promise of the trailer.

But based on what we’ve seen so far, it seems like Supermassive Games is swinging for the fences with this one, bringing fans a horror experience that could very well end up being the scariest in The Dark Pictures Anthology to date.

What did you think of the teaser? Are you excited to see what terrors await among the stars? Let us know in the comments below!
