Iridium Is Allegedly the Codename of a Post Apocalyptic New IP Being Developed By Ubisoft

Despite the ongoing criticism of many of its titles, Ubisoft is forging ahead undeterred. Not satisfied with adding to the long list of existing IPs, the company is looking to branch out further by creating new properties for gamers.

The most recent reports suggest that the company is working on what appears to be an open-world survival exploration experience. Very little is known about the potential project, codenamed ‘Iridium’, but the description should interest quite a few players.

Project Iridium Brings Set in a Post-Apocalyptic World

Nuclear strikes and apocalypse-by-radiation are fairly common tropes in media. It’s been one of humanity’s primary fears since we discovered the technology. Understanding this, Ubisoft is not working with an original concept, but what’s important is how they take it forward from being just another Fallout-inspired clone.

Project Iridium, which takes place after the events of a terrible war that led to some form of ***** being utilized, places the player on the irradiated map of Highpoint City. By allowing human minds to control mechanical shells, the game requires the player to discover the mysteries of the warzone. As reported by

, the threats extend beyond those posed by the environment and rival factions.

******** factions struggle against each other for survival in the wastelands, while the local Authority maintains order as best it can. Now, decades after the fall of Highpoint, something is beginning to stir within the ashes… something alien.

According to the report, players will take control of “a man with a shady past and a reputation for taking jobs no one else will” named Whittaker. The goal appears to be the city’s epicenter, using a combination of stealth and vehicles. We also know of two other characters in the game named Octavia, a rebel and smuggler, and Isaac Armitage, a self-proclaimed leader.

If this project is going ahead, it’s not yet clear which division of Ubisoft will be taking it forward. Given the recent news of layoffs, putting franchises such as The Division at risk, the studio has to work smartly to ensure its current properties won’t be affected if resources are diverted towards creating a new one.

Ubisoft’s Current and Upcoming Projects Have Been Heavily Criticized

By this point, everyone knows that gamers have had a field day with tearing down the upcoming *********’s Creed Shadows. From creating a petition against Ubisoft for misrepresenting culture to claiming the gameplay shown does not appear to be very modern, the next entry in the long-running franchise has not been welcomed warmly.

The not-so-subtle push for the company’s subscription service was the cherry on top. The company has also been called out for its pricing practices with Star Wars Outlaws.

Not only is the same push to Ubisoft+ present, but the company has also decided to lock the much-awaited Jabba the Hut mission behind a paywall at launch. Aside from the next release, Ubisoft has been busy improving its tactical co-op shooter, XDefiant.

The game was released to rival Call of Duty but didn’t exactly live up to that expectation at launch. Now, after multiple updates, the game is far more enjoyable but still unable to claim the top spot in the genre.
